Have you ever stopped to think about the origins of policing or forensics? There are so many interesting facts and trivia about these career fields. For example, did you know that mugshots originated from a crime photographer in Paris? The value of mugshots was pointed out in the 1800s. Did you know the significance and value of fingerprints has been appreciated since the year 1000? Another interesting fact is Alternative Light Sources (ALS) were first used by Canadian Mounties in the 1970s! The device was not portable at that time, but the technology was still here. These are just a few of many, interesting historical tidbits about our career field.

Both policing and forensics have come a long way! We can better appreciate the technology and knowledge we have now by learning about how far it has come. New science and techniques are being developed all of the time. It will be interesting to see what the future holds.
